R+L=J Won't Be Confirmed Soon On 'GoT'

by Lindsey Kupfer

Look winter has been coming for six years now and it still hasn't really snowed south of Winterfell. So if you were hoping that Season 6 of Game of Thrones will bring the big reveal that Jon Snow’s birth mom is Lyanna Stark, then you might be super disappointed. In case you haven’t noticed things in Westeros are not rushed — and neither is George R.R. Martin’s writing. Bran’s visions last Sunday of his father and Howland Reed fighting at the Tower of Joy could mean that the popular Game of Thrones theory R+L=J is true. The Tower of Joy was where Lyanna died and fans believe she gave birth to Jon Snow. Bran was so close to going into the tower, but nope. Wasn’t going to happen and the show probably won’t go back there for awhile.

I’m pretty sure by now every single person reading this article knows the R+L=J theory, but if not, here’s a quick summary. Essentially is posits that Jon Snow is really the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen (Daenerys’ older brother). On her deathbed she asked Ned to take Jon and raise him as his own so Robert Baratheon wouldn’t murder him. It basically means Jon Snow is the rightful king.

Unfortunately, there are several clues that we won’t get a R+L=J confirmation any time soon.

Bran's Flashbacks Are Just Starting

Can we give Bran a minute before he learns his half-brother is actually his cousin? He’s only had a few flashbacks so far, and I doubt they’re going to just jump right in with that reveal. The battle we saw at the Tower of Joy was a huge tease. I assume we will have to wait a while before we get to the really good stuff. Plus, since we all know it’s coming, wouldn’t you rather see Bran look into the future? I would.

Because Hodor

Am I the only one that cares more about what happened to Hodor than I do R+L=J? Seriously, what happened to Hodor!?

Lyanna And Rhaegar’s Relationship

Before we see what really happened in the Tower of Joy, they need to show us flashbacks of Lyanna and Rhaegar’s relationship. Why would they start with the birth of the baby? Let’s take it back to before the war and find out what really happened with Lyanna. R+L=J confirmation can wait.

There Are White Walkers To Deal With

I mean, did we forget there’s a giant army of dead dudes on the other side of The Wall? It’s probably more important we get back to fighting them and maybe calling in some back up versus talking about Jon’s parents.

Dany Should Be In A Better Place

We can’t learn that Daenerys Targaryen is actually Jon Snow’s aunt while she’s trapped in a crazy Khal widow convent. Can we wait till she’s back with Tyrion before her entire claim to the Iron Throne goes away?

That's A Finale Type Of Reveal

Everyone needs to remember we are only on Episode 4. This type of reveal is definitely season finale material. If it does happen this season, we’re looking at the end of June at the earliest. Plus, you want it revealed in a super dramatic way. It will be way better.

Because Life Is Not That Easy

…and David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are not that kind.
