Your Old iPod Could Be Worth Thousands

by Dasha Fayvinova

If you are like every kid who was in grade school during the early '00s, then chances are your parents heavily funded all those hot technological trends you set your eyes on. If you don't like thinking about how much dough they dropped on you way back when, maybe you would be interested in finding out how much your old iPod is worth now? Turns out that begging your parents for an extremely expensive music player just might be the thing that pays off all that student debt.

Nostalgia is the name of the game. People love being able to live in the past — most likely a psychological reaction to us being so futuristic and advanced as a society. From clothing to farm-to-table trends, we want to immerse ourselves in the past, and nothing says the past like a 2001 Apple hit. Your classic iPod, certain rare VHS tapes, and even outdated computers can all fetch a pretty penny on eBay and online. There is a market for them with tech collectors who have expendable incomes. Factory seals iPods from that period are currently online and priced at $18,000. You didn't misread that, by the way. Makes you think twice about opening anything ever again.

I knew this was going to be a real thing when I saw a display in a museum featuring all the different models of Apple products behind thick glass. I had one in my pocket, yet the one behind the glass was obviously more expensive. Oh how I wish I didn't break my iPod Classic back in the day. Maybe if I didn't get saltwater into it, it would have been enough to pay for my college tuition. A girl can dream.

If you think you have a treasure tucked away in your room, be aware that not all of these iPods are the same. People prefer un-opened, rare editions. If you fit the bill you might just become the glamorous sequel to the story of an iPod that sold for $90,000 in 2014. So keep this in mind before you go tearing through your childhood home on a mission to become rich. If you are moving in the near future, this would be a good idea to keep an eye out!

This Twitter user found an old iPod while packing up his things before a big move. I wonder how much it could fetch? It isn't shown to be working, unlike in the picture below.

This person really went ham. I honestly really miss the old iPod, so maybe we're all getting hit by the nostalgia wave. So maybe it's best that I don't have it to sell now, because parting with it would not have been a sweet sorrow.
