14 Ways We Loved Fringe In The Early 2000s

by Miki Hayes

The early 2000s were a time of some seriously questionable fashion trends. Granted, at the time, they all seemed totally chic and cool (as trends tend to appear), but in hindsight, we wore so many clothes and accessories with fringe for no reason at all. I guess we had a thing for texture. Because whenever we could, we were rocking something with feathers, tassels, or even clothes that laced up for no reason. Simplicity simply wasn't a thing. And fringe was one of our favorite ways to add that something extra to an outfit.

I remember it being so prevalent at one point, that my mom used to worry about people getting their fringe caught in escalators. I had to explain to her that for no particular reason, those foot-long tassels hanging off of anything and everything were totally necessary. And it only took me a decade to understand what she meant when she said, "I don't get it." So let's take a look at one of our favorite, yet most confusing trends from the beginning of this millennium. Here are 14 clothes and accessories from the early 2000s that had fringe on them for absolutely no reason. And even though we may not want to admit it, we loved all of them.

1. Mini Dresses

Because it's not enough to just have it at the top or the bottom. It's all over or bust.

2. Jeans

Those jeans + that hair = 2000s goals.

3. Arm Cuffs

In case you forgot, we also used to wear arm cuffs in the 2000s. So arm cuffs with fringe were all the better.

4. Matching Purses & Belts

If you have rainbow fringe, you wear that sh*t everywhere.

5. Maxi Skirts

Feathered fringe was the ultimate fringe.

6. Scarves

A scarf without fringe was no scarf at all.

I won't lie. I had one of these. And it was my everything.

OK, fringe was pretty cool.
