About That 'Apocalypse' Post-Credits Scene...

by Rachel Simon

Almost exactly two years since the release of X-Men: Days of Future Past, the next movie in the mutant franchise, X-Men: Apocalypse has finally arrived. Fans of the superhero gang have been eagerly awaiting the new film and all it has to offer, from its all-star cast to its crazy CGI to its sure-to-be-massive ending. As someone who's already seen the movie, I can assure you that everything about it is as exciting and action-packed as you'd hope — especially the X-Men: Apocalypse post-credits scene.

That isn't exactly a surprise, considering that practically every major superhero movie nowadays (minus DC's selection) features a post-credits scene that hints at the future of the franchise or, at the very least, provides some amusement and thrills after the actual conclusion has happened. X-Men: Apocalypse 's post-credits scene does just that, setting up some interesting things to come while also giving audiences a bit more excitement before they leave the theater for good. If you didn't stay in your seats to see the scene yourself, or if you haven't seen the movie yet but are hungry for spoilers, here are all the details you need about the X-Men: Apocalypse post-credits scene. Obviously, major spoilers ahead!

OK, here's how it goes: after the credits roll, viewers are shown the Weapon X facility, where Jean, Cyclops, and Nightcrawler previously met up with Wolverine. The scene shows a man walking through the mess of dead bodies left behind by Wolverine during his rampage, stopping when he sees vials of blood called "Weapon X." He puts the vials in a briefcase, and the name on the case is shown to be "Essex Corp" — a nod to Nathaniel Essex, aka Mister Sinister, who, in the comics, becomes one of the X-Men's biggest enemies thanks to powers including telekinesis and shape-shifting.

So what does it all mean? Well, most likely it's a hint that in the next X-Men movie centered around Wolverine (or perhaps even one featuring the new class of mutants led by Jean, Nightcrawler, and Cyclops, Mister Sinister will play a significant role. Only time will tell if the character becomes a massive part of the franchise, but get ready, X-Men fans: this is gonna be big.
