You May Never Hear Jay Z's Latest On Spotify

by Nicole Pomarico

Well, it happened, everyone. I didn't think it would, but we now live in an age where Jay Z has responded to Beyoncé's Lemonade . OK, so it wasn't exactly the tell all novel I was hoping for, but he did drop a verse in his latest song that kind of explains how he feels. Late Tuesday night, Jay Z released the "All The Way Up" remix, where he raps on Fat Joe and Remy Ma's song about how much his marriage is worth after everything they've been through. If you're a fan of the reigning king and queen of Hollywood, you're probably dying to hear it for yourself, but you've probably also noticed it's hard to find. Will "All The Way Up (remix)" ever be on Spotify? The jury's still out on that one.

For now, the only place you can stream the song is on Tidal, which isn't surprising since Jay Z and his pals try to limit their music's availability in order to drive people to his service (at least at first). With so many huge streaming competitors out there like Spotify and Apple Music, it makes sense that he'd want to require his fans to use Tidal to hear his music. So far, no date has been published for when it could be available elsewhere, but that doesn't mean all hope is lost.

Plenty of music that has started out as Tidal exclusive has eventually made its way to other services. At first, the only way to listen to Kanye West's The Life of Pablo album was through Tidal, but now, you can stream it on both Apple Music and Spotify. And in the beginning, Lemonade was Tidal only, and even though that's still the only place you can stream it, less than a week later fans could purchase the songs from Beyoncé's latest album on iTunes. In a perfect world, every song in the history of music and beyond would be immediately streamable on Spotify, but that is not the world we live in. The world we live in is a place where Jay Z is still trying to make Tidal happen, and he's actually not doing such a bad job at it.

And the good news: Every other incarnation of "All The Way Up" is on Spotify, so it's definitely not impossible to think that the Jay Z version will join the others soon. It's only fair!

But for now, if you exhausted your free trial listening to Lemonade on repeat, you'll have to pay up or your out of luck — at least for now. Fingers crossed "All The Way Up" sees a wider release in the future!
