Sanders & Trump Might Actually Debate

While we almost certainly won't get this throwdown for the general election, Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders may debate each before a national audience. On Wednesday's Jimmy Kimmel Live! , the presumptive Republican nominee said he would debate the Vermont senator. In turn, Sanders tweeted "Game on." In theory, the two would debate before the California primary on June 7. With under two weeks to set a date and organize the debate and with neither party officially on board, it could be a difficult match-up to put together.

Sanders had tentatively agreed to debate Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton before the California primary in a Fox News debate, but the former Secretary of State declined. That led some to hope that Trump and Sanders would debate, instead, but the prospect picked up steam when Jimmy Kimmel asked the reality TV business mogul if he would consider debating the Democratic socialist senator. In fact, Kimmel read a letter written by Sanders on air, which stated:

Hillary Clinton backed out of an agreement to debate me in California before the June 7th primary. Are you prepared to debate the major issues facing our largest state and the country prior to the California primary?

Trump responded, "If he paid a sum to charity I would love to do that." It didn't take long for Sanders to gamely confirm he was ready to debate. Shortly after midnight, Sanders tweeted:

Whether this only adds regret to Clinton's decision not to debate Sanders or confirms her choice remains to be seen.
