Books That Will Make You Want To Travel To The 90s

by Sadie Trombetta

I don't know whether it's the classic fashion trends, the unforgettable romantic comedies, or the incredible pop groups, but there's just something about the '90s that make it one of the best and most nostalgic decades ever. Even though the last day of the decade was over 16 years ago, there will always be those sitcoms, movies, and books that will make you want to travel back to the 90s, because who doesn't dream of reliving those glory days?

The 1990s was a decade filled with grunge music and hip hop, choker necklaces and overalls, and Pokemon and Bop-It. If you were a 90s kid, you probably spent your weekends watching Saturday morning cartoons, playing on your Game Boy, or memorizing the newest Spice Girls dance routine. As a '90s teen, you were most likely found blasting Nirvana from your Walkman, trying on new mood rings, or debating the fate of Joey's love life — would she chose Dawson or Pacy? — with your friends over a bottle of Orbitz. Now that you're older, you look back on the days of TGIF TV, boy bands, and tattoo chokers with a fondness and longing that can only be the result of being a product of the 1990s. Trust me, I know exactly what that feeling is like.

Even though the decade is over, the '90s are making a comeback everywhere you look. From the comeback of flannel and denim jackets to the revival of The X-Files and Full House, the 90s seem to be alive and well in 2016. But if current fashion and pop culture trends still aren't enough of a nostalgic fix for you, here are 10 books that will bring you back to your favorite decade of the 20th century.

1. Girls on Fire by Robin Wasserman

A story about two teenagers, Hannah and Lacey, and their fierce and even obsessive bond, Girls on Fire is an intense and powerful book about the destructive power of female friendship that is relatable in any decade, but set firmly in the 1990s. From the '90s fashion to the music to the girls' particular brand of rebellion, this book, as dark as it is, will have you feeling nostalgic for your own teenage years nearly two decades ago.
