If You're In PST, You'll Wanna Read This

While the 86th annual Academy Awards will get an evening debut on the east coast, west coast viewers will need to tune in at 4 p.m. PST to watch the Oscars kick off Sunday March 2 on ABC. The Oscars ceremony will air at 5:30 p.m. PST, after the red carpet coverage. The ceremony is being held at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre, and will be delivered by talk show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres in her second time hosting.

The race for best actor in a leading role is brimming with familiar faces: Christian Bale is up for his role in David O. Russell's American Hustle, Matthew McConaughey is nominated for Dallas Buyers Club (both roles in which the actors had to gain and lose weight, respectively). Bruce Dern is nominated for the sleeper hit Nebraska, Chiwetel Ejiofor is nominated for his role in 12 Years a Slave, and Leonardo DiCaprio appears to finally be back in the good graces of the Academy, having nabbed a nod for The Wolf of Wall Street.

The category for best actress in a leading role is much more predictable. As always, Meryl Streep has scored a nomination, this time for her role in August: Osage County. Judi Dench is up for her work in the true story Philomena, and Cate Blanchett is nominated for her role in Blue Jasmine, Woody Allen's modern retelling of A Street Car Named Desire. Filling in more of the Academy favorites is Amy Adams for American Hustle and Sandra Bullock in Gravity.

The lucky ducks on the west coast won't have to stay up as late as those on the east coast, so cherish it, PSTers. Your Oscars are on Sunday afternoon, as opposed to Sunday evening, and that's something worth celebrating.
