What Channel Are the Oscars On?

by Anna Klassen

The 86th annual Academy Awards will take place March 2 at Hollywood's Dolby theatre in Los Angeles. The Oscars will be broadcast on ABC starting at 4 p.m. PST and 7 p.m. ET, and last for about 3,785 hours. Just kidding — possibly. But with Ellen DeGeneres as the shows host, getting through the presentations lulls should be a breeze.

E! will have red carpet coverage starting at 1:30 p.m. ET.

While many actors who are nominated for this years ceremony in Best Actor and Best Actress in leading roles categories are the usual contenders, the category of Best Actor in a Supporting Role might shake things up. Barkhad Abdi, a newcomer to the Academy and even the acting world, won a Golden Globe for his role as a Somalian pirate in Captain Phillips. If he takes home a second award at the Oscars, the categories' traditional leading men — Bradley Cooper, Michael Fassbender, Jonah Hill and Jared Leto — will be snubbed by someone very new, and very lucky, at his craft.

The same can be said for the Best Actress in a Supporting role category, where newcomer Lupita Nyong'o is up for her role in 12 Years a Slave. Jennifer Lawrence took home the Golden Globe in this category, and is up again among Sally Hawkins, Julia Roberts and June Squibb for the Oscar.

Make sure to tune into ABC to see what happens, or hey, if you're not near a TV, here's how you can watch the Oscars online this Sunday. Good luck to all the nominees!
