On Wednesday, a sudden and shocking shooting at UCLA left the campus on lockdown and two victims injured, a UCLA spokesperson told the Associated Press. The shooter has been officially classified as "active," meaning that the situation is officially an active shooter situation until further notice. Students were ordered to shelter in place as of 10:30 a.m.; between 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., the campus was officially placed on lockdown amid reports of a shooter. Several students and families of UCLA students are tweeting from the scene and from nearby. Update: The Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed the incident was a murder-suicide.

The LAPD said in a statement that the department believes the shooter to be in the engineering building, according to CNN.

Details on the scene are scarce, but authorities including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, LAPD, and a bomb squad are already on the scene. Los Angeles has also been placed on tactical alert. The Los Angeles Times reports that police are searching for the shooter from classroom to classroom. Presumably, the lockdown will continue until the shooter is found and neutralized.

In a press conference minutes after the deaths were confirmed, the police department said that a murder-suicide could not be ruled out.
