Listen to Ray LaMontagne's New Single 'Supernova'

by Alicia Lutes

Want to feel the warm, breezy licks of a sunny summer day on this chilly February afternoon? Look no further than this post right here, because Ray LaMontagne's new single, "Supernova," has arrived. The Dan Auerbach (of The Black Keys' fame) produced single hit the Internet today via the singer's SoundCloud page and it's got us ripened and ready to be plucked out of this cold, cold winter and thrust straight into the suns of a 1960s summer.

We already told you we're excited about the collaboration, and "Supernova" proves it's going to be one for the books. It's a very different direction for the typically emotionally brooding singer. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. After all, repetitiveness in music is often a sign of stagnancy, and nobody likes that. Besides, Auerbach has a tendency to throw a more upbeat punch into the records he produces.

If you're a fan of the Byrds, Tom Petty, and Ray LaMontagne, the song has all of those parts combined. LaMontagne's caramel-tipped tongue serves the song well, those gravelly tones having found a golden-hued a welcome home in "Supernova"'s melodies.

The single is available on iTunes on February 25, while the album — also titled Supernova — is slated to be released on May 6th, 2014. Take a listen to the tune and see for yourself what a peppy Ray LaMontagne summer sounds like (at last!):
