Catch The Kardashian Ref In Drake's New Song?

by Loretta Donelan

Calabasas, California is the home to many celebrities and successful people, but the famous setting of Drake's new "4PM In Calabasas" is perhaps best known as the residence of the Kardashians, as their sprawling Calabasas houses are prominently featured on their E! show Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Drake also has a house in Calabasas, and the rapper's new musical tribute to his town, much of which is inaccessible to the public, was released on his OVO Sound Radio on Saturday night, and if you listen close, you might just notice the Kardashian reference in "4PM In Calabasas."

Drake's song is feisty and gruff, taking aim at Puff Daddy and Joe Budden. He frames other rappers' critiques as jealousy at his success ("The higher I get, the less they accept me") and describes the paranoia of being at the top ("Pistol by my bed, I'm sleep but I'm awake"). But he also gives a shoutout to his Calabasas neighbor and Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner. He raps, "See Kris Jenner, I beep twice and I wave." It's a cute image to think about Jenner and Drake waving as they pass each other's Calabasas homes. Drake has been friendly with the Kardashian family for awhile now; he showed up at the Kardashian/Jenner Christmas party, and has been seen hanging out with the family's daughters.

And they're clearly close Calabasas residents. In an interview with Zane Lowe in April, Drake revealed that he was Kanye West's neighbor. "We live up the street from each other," he said. "I’ll pull up at his house and see what he’s doing. We’ll just sit and collaborate, that’s what music is all about." Drake's California house, also called the YOLO Estate, is minutes away from Jenner's house, where Kardashian and West were staying until March. For those who weren't following the drama on KUWTK, Kanye and Kim were living with Kim's mom, biding their time while their properties, one located very close to Jenner and Drake's houses and one in Bel-Air, were fixed up.

Drake could have been referring to either the new Kimye house or Jenner's estate when he said he lived up the street from West, but since that house still appears to be under construction and Kimye have moved into the Bel-Air home, Drake probably meant that he lived up the street from Jenner (where West was staying for months). Regardless, I'm sure he and the Pablo rapper wave at each other, too.
