Roger Clinton Was Thrown In Jail At A Bad Time

by Emily Shire

On Monday, TMZ reported that Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton's brother-in-law, Roger Clinton, was jailed for driving under the influence. According to TMZ, law enforcement said that Clinton was arrested Sunday night in Redondo Beach, California after 8 p.m. local time. Clinton remains in police custody, and his bail is set at $15,000.

The arrest comes at an especially awkward time for the former secretary of state's campaign. On Tuesday, voters in the same state where Roger Clinton was arrested head to the polls in a primary that has grown increasingly tighter. A CBS News/YouGov poll found that Clinton is only beating Bernie Sanders by two points, 49 to 47 percent, in California. Clinton held a solid double-digit lead against Sanders just a few weeks ago. A negative distraction in the Golden State couldn't come at a worse time.

Still, Clinton needs fewer than 30 delegates to secure the Democratic nomination after her win in Puerto Rico on Sunday. There's a strong shot she'll have enough delegates before the polls even close in California, thanks to New Jersey, where the CBS News/YouGov poll has her handily beating Sanders 61 to 34 percent.
