'Supergirl's Cousin Will Join Her In Season 2

by Michelle Lulic

DC Comics fans are getting the family reunion they've been waiting for. Following Supergirl's move from CBS to The CW, an entire team of DC heroes has been slowly coming together on the young adult-based network. However, despite Kara being the close cousin of the world-renowned Superman, fans have been waiting to actually see both of the "S"-wearing heroes in the same room, and, now, the wait is finally over. According to Entertainment Weekly, the show's executive producer, Andrew Kreisberg, has announced that Superman will be featured in Supergirl Season 2.

“Greg [Berlanti], Ali [Adler] and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of Supergirl. Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!”

From the sound of it, the process is just beginning for this short and highly-anticipated new storyline. It's a concept that seems to have been a long-time coming, too, since Kreisberg also told EW that they producers hoped to unite the two characters on the small-screen before the show was officially renewed for a second season: "It will always be a dream of ours to be able to have Clark or Superman on the show."

If the scripts are already in place then the casting for a new television Superman also needs to be underway. While, personally, I would love to see a brand-new face in the role of character, perhaps there's a chance that Man of Steel's very own Henry Cavill might be brought onto the set? OK, most likely, DC Comics fans are going to be spotting a new actor in the red and blue suit. Here are just some of the perfectly capable actors who could totally rock it.

1. Matt Bomer

Not all actors have that Superman look down as perfectly as Matt Bomer does. Bomer auditioned against Henry Cavill for Man of Steel, so, if he's cast on Supergirl, then we can finally have the chance to see what he can bring to the character.

2. Jake Lacy

Lacy may be an actor still on the rise, but that's what makes him a perfect candidate for the role. Between his good looks and his role on Girls coming to an end, he's free for television and just the right person to act alongside Melissa Benoist.

3. Jared Padalecki

Padalecki will be gaining even more attention soon with the help of the Gilmore Girls revival. However, joining the DC Comics television world could be just what he needs to stay in the moment. Plus, he's a familiar face on The CW network for his work on Supernatural and he auditioned for the role before in Superman Returns.

4. Matthew Lewis

This Harry Potter star recently appeared on the big-screen in the film Me Before You, and it might be time that we see him a more serious role like this iconic character. Not only does he have the looks, but he also can have that cousin-feel that the television show needs. As long as he can hide his British accent that is.

5. Zac Efron

There's no denying that Efron can rock the superhero suit. He just needs a chance. And, personally, I think it would be nice to see him in a television role for once.

But it looks like we'll just have to wait and see who might be in the running. Supergirl premiere on The CW for Season 2 later this year.
