Check Out Haim Cover Beyonce

by Lia Beck

A Beyoncé cover is generally worth listening to simply because it's Beyoncé and all of her songs are catchy wonderfulness, but there is a new one in particular that stands out from all those "Single Ladies" remixes on YouTube. Haim covered Beyoncé's "XO" for BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge and brought some chill indie rock vibes to the song from Beyonce's surprise self-titled album. If you aren't familiar with the group, Haim consists of three sisters, Alana, Danielle, and Este Haim. "XO" takes well to Haim's live band treatment since Beyoncé's version features a strong beat that translates easily to a drum set. Haim's cover just tones down the electronic sounds giving the song a calmer feel.

It goes without saying that the vocals aren't as strong on the cover — Haim is playing live at a radio station, it's not their song, and they aren't Beyoncé — but it's definitely worth a listen. If you haven't heard Haim, it's a way to get aquainted with their sound through a song that might already be familiar. At the very least, you'll get to hear the sisters of Haim pronounce their name first hand. Hi-um, not haym.
