Here's How To Stream The 2016 Tony Awards

by Molly Freeman

It's that time of year guys and dolls, the time when you can either accept that you've been completely swept away in the flood of Hamilton fans or attempt to fight against their overwhelming presence on all social media platforms; that's right, it's time for The 70th Annual Tony Awards! So, if you've decided to watch Hamilton win all the awards — plus perform! — or if you're a longtime musical theater fan but are unsure how to catch the show, here's how to stream The 2016 Tony Awards. If you're like me, it's the first chance you've had to watch the folks of Hamilton perform since The 2016 Grammys and that is can't-miss TV.

Your best bet to catch The Tonys is with a cable connection and CBS — or a friend who doesn't mind you sharing their couch for the big event. But, if you're like so many other cord cutters and don't have access to cable, don't worry! The Tonys will be available on CBS All Access, CBS's video-on-demand service. The VOD will allow you to stream the award show live online with an account. If you don't have CBS All Access, new users can sign up for a free one week trial, and the service costs $5.99 a month afterward.

Now, if neither of those methods work for you — and you don't mind missing the live conversation on social media — the full telecast and musical performances will likely be available to purchase on Amazon and iTunes, since that has been the case with the past few years' shows. The 2014 and 2015 Tony Awards were made available on Amazon the same day the shows aired on television, so it's possible you'll be able to watch that way along with the rest of us Hamilton-obsessed viewers. But, more likely, the telecast may only be made available after the show has finished airing on CBS.

Still, if you're unable to catch the Hamilton-heavy 2016 Tony Awards, but want a dose of musical theater, I recommend checking out this year's host, James Corden's Tony themed Broadway Carpool Karaoke or just listening to the Hamilton soundtrack on repeat (you can do so via iTunes and Spotify). Or, put on your own musical theater playlist (come on, I know you have one) and belt out your favorite show-stoppers.

So, whether you're watching The 2016 Tonys on TV, on CBS All Access, or on Amazon or iTunes, this is truly going to be a year to remember. Need I remind you that Hamilton broke records with their 16 Tony nominations? Look around, look around, at lucky we are to be alive right now — and don't miss this year's Tonys. It's a must-watch for Hamilton fans.
