'Pistol Shrimps' Are Your New Favorite B-Ball Team

Where there's no path, you must blaze a trail. That's what a group of LA-based actors and comedians including Parks and Recreation star Aubrey Plaza do in the feature-length documentary, Pistol Shrimps. When these women wanted to take to the court for some competitive basketball in their free time, they encountered a disappointment that became an opportunity. They couldn't find an amateur women's league to enter, so they established their own. Pistol Shrimps follows Plaza's team of fearless, funny women through their 2015 season.

In the exclusive trailer below, Plaza and her fellow ballers exhibit the spirit of camaraderie and friendly rivalry that shows why these women weren't satisfied with the occasional playground pick-up game. "I've never played for fun," Plaza says, ambiguously sarcastic as always. "I always played to win." There's a certain amount of fierceness required to make it in Hollywood (especially as a creative, take-no-crap woman), so it's no surprise that Plaza and teammates Molly Hawkey (F'd), model Melissa Stetten, and Maria Blasucci (Drunk History) are a force to be reckoned with on the court.

The film isn't the first time this scrappy group of intramural players have been in the spotlight. In fact, the Pistol Shrimps are all about scaring off anyone who might be under the false impression that stepping to them is a good idea. When Plaza appeared on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon in July of last year, she read a message (well, more of a warning) from the Pistol Shrimps' captain, Blasucci: "Look, Jimmy. We love to ball and we ball hard. No haters allowed. You are either with us or against us. And god help you if you're against us, because we will dunk on your ass so hard." These ladies are so legit, they even have their own trading cards.

Pistol Shrimps, out June 16, comes to Seeso with a documentary pedigree, thanks to Supersize Me director Morgan Spurlock on board as a producer, and Brent Hodge (I Am Chris Farley, A Brony Tale) as director. You won't want to miss this one.
