These 'Finding Nemo' Fish Are Making A Big Return

It's been 13 years since the release of Finding Nemo, and Pixar is finally following up with a sequel. Finding Dory, in theaters June 17, finds the little blue fish on a journey to reunite with her family. It's obviously a children's movie, but that doesn't mean you adults can't go see it, especially if you're feeling nostalgic for the first movie. In fact, there are plenty of Finding Nemo characters in Finding Dory , so you can get reacquainted with nearly the entire old gang.

You'll also meet see some new faces, though, as Finding Dory introduces some additional characters. This is partly because it's a new story and partly because technological advances in the past 13 years have allowed filmmakers to create types of characters that weren't possible for the first film. John Halstead, the supervising technical director for Finding Dory , told CNET, "Computers have gotten a heck of a lot faster [since 2003]. Our algorithms are smarter, and also, our pipeline has drastically changed." These innovations led to the birth of new, more complex CGI characters for Finding Dory. But don't worry; these new characters won't overshadow the original crew. Here are the Finding Nemo characters you can expect to see in Finding Dory.

1. Marlin

The clownfish played by Albert Brooks will join Dory on her adventure to find her family.

2. Nemo

The titular character of the first film will also return, but with a different voice. Nemo was played by Alexander Gould in the original movie, while in Finding Dory he is played by 11-year-old Hayden Rolence.

3. Mr. Ray

Nemo's school teacher from the first film (whose name is a reference to the fact that he is a spotted eagle ray) will be returning for the second.

4. Crush

The film's director, Andrew Stanton, will reprise his role as the turtle who has a laid-back, surfer dude vibe.

5. Squirt

The enthusiastic little turtle Squirt will make an appearance in Finding Dory, but this time he'll be voiced by Bennett Dammann as opposed to Nicholas Bird (who did the original vocals).

6. Mystery Cameo by Alexander Gould

Although he was replaced with a different voice actor for Nemo (because, obviously, the now-22-year-old doesn't have the same voice as he did in 2003), Gould still has a cameo in the new movie.

7. And, Of Course, Dory

It's a good thing Ellen Degeneres was willing to reprise the role of Dory, because otherwise the movie would likely not be happening at all.

For kids who grew up with Finding Nemo, it'll be a treat to see some of the original characters again in Finding Dory. The new movie will be here soon enough, but in the meantime, just keep swimming.
