3D Tattoos Exist (And Make My Skin Crawl)

I am not against tattoos. In fact, I've been mulling over the idea of getting one. Something small, tasteful, you know, meaningful. But then I see things like this and go running in the other direction. Introducing, 3D tattoos. It is a real thing that exists and according to the world of Instagram and the hashtag #3DTattoo, people everywhere are embracing it with open arms, backs, legs... and lots of other body parts.

This new tattoo trend is definitely meant to shock and awe, and while some of them are pretty awesome looking, a majority of them are not meant for the faint of heart (i.e., me). Open wounds, eyeballs and snakes are just a handful of designs that seemingly emerge from the skin, thanks to this intricate new style of tattoo art. Artists use strategic shading and layering so the design appears to "pop" out of the skin.

I don't know about you, but I certainly can't think of one thing that I would want "coming out" of my skin. Would it be kind of cool to have people constantly think a butterfly was floating above my shoulder? Or that I had a literal key hole into my heart? Maybe. But probably not. Especially not permanently. So, major kudos to the following people who have embraced the new tattoo trend, even if it makes my skin crawl a little bit. Okay, a lot.

Here are a few examples:

I'll admit that the attention to detail in this cut-out leg is super impressive. But, ouch.

How many times do you think her drunken friends have tried to stick their house keys into the back of her neck?

I feel like it'd be pretty difficult to always have to dress to match a bulging black lace bow on my back, right?

She must feel like a modern day Disney Princess with this butterfly following her every move.

I hate to say it, but I think this guy made a really bad decision.
