Carpool Karaoke Returned At The Tony Awards

It wouldn't be James Corden without Carpool Karaoke, right? Most Hamilton fanatics know that Lin-Manuel Miranda joined James Corden's "Carpool Karaoke" on The Late Late Show with fellow Broadway stars Audra McDonald, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Jane Krakowski — but the Tony Awards gave us something extra. You can't completely recycle a bit, so CBS mixed it up for the second showing.

Sunday's broadcast was a shorter version than the one we saw earlier on The Late Late Show, but the Tony "edit" included a bit of Corden and Miranda jamming to "You'll Be Back" from Hamilton instead of "Alexander Hamilton," the title number. I'm still a little sad that Jonathan Groff did not grace the Tony Awards with his hilarious and campy take on King George, but we can't always get what we want. Listening to the two of them scream it out in the car will have to do. There was a little less from "Guns and Ships," as well, which is a shame, because Corden kinda nails it? That Lafayette rap is no easy feat. We didn't see the whole gang's "awww" moment for Rent, but the "One Day More" jam was still there. In case you were wondering, yes, Miranda is the friend who acts as a hype man during Les Mis sing-alongs. We all have that friend. (I might actually be that friend sometimes.)

Here's the original Late Late Show karaoke for your re-watching pleasure. I think I might prefer it, overall, but that's just one opinion.
