Kimberly Morris Was A Bouncer At The Orlando Club

by Andi O'Rourke

It was just another day at work before things took a nightmarish turn at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida on Sunday, June 12. Victims' names are being released, so who was Kimberly Morris? The nightclub bouncer is being remembered on social media by friends and former colleagues.

Nelson Roman, an LQBTQ+ organizer from Holyoke, Massachusetts, told Western Mass News that Morris was working as a bouncer at Pulse before she was gunned down by a shooter armed with an assault rifle. Morris, 37, was also reportedly a member of the Western Massachusetts Imperial Court, a chapter of a national philanthropic and social club for LQBTQ+ people.

According to Roman, Morris, who went by "KJ" to her friends, would perform in some capacity at Diva’s Club in Northampton, MA, a LGBTQ-friendly dance club and lounge.

Friends took to Morris' social media page on Facebook to remember her cheer and warmth. A profile belonging to Morris has been set to memorial status, and is private, but reporting from Buzzfeed's Stephanie McNeal captured some of the sentiments that some of her friends wanted to make public.

"You always lit up a room with your smile,” Latricia Brown, one of Morris' friends, said. “That beautiful smile will forever be engraved in my mind,” said another friend, Ashley Ann Matthews, in a message.

Morris was one of the 50 people who tragically lost their lives in this senseless shooting on June 12. The complete list of victims' names is still being released and it will be updated as the City of Orlando continues to disclose this information.
