Who Will Open For Kanye West On His New Tour?

by Mary Grace Garis

You've probably been dying for Kanye West to go on tour ever since you had to shell out money for TIDAL during the initial release of The Life of Pablo. Well, the universe is rewarding you: Kanye announced the dates for the Saint Pablo tour Tuesday morning, so at long last you can shell out money for that, too. With an impressive 40 stops in North America planned, there's no doubt you'll be able to hit up Yeezy. Our only curiosity is, who is opening for Kanye on his new tour?

As of right now Kanye has yet to announce a supporting act for the Saint Pablo tour, but we know that he's sharing the spotlight (weird concept) with his squad on the upcoming Cruel Winter album. Realistically speaking, we could expect one of Kanye's crew from G.O.O.D. Music to back him up. So which rapper is most likely to join in? Let's do a run down of Kanye's past and present tour buddies and collaborators to see if anyone matches up.

Lest we forget, Kanye's Yeezus Tour featured Kendrick Lamar, Pusha T, A Tribe Called Quest, and Travi$ Scott. Right now, it seems that Kendrick Lamar's star is on the rise and he's not going to latch back onto another Kanye tour as a side dish. Beyond that, Kendrick has a few conflicting tour dates and a different record label. Travi$ Scott, likewise, is in the middle of his own tour, and Pusha T could technically do it after Full Moon Fest, though I don't see it happening.

A more probable pick, I think, is Big Sean. Big Sean, along with Travi$ Scott, was one of the artists featured on Cruel Winter's "Champions." It feels right that Kanye would want one of the album's co-collaborators on tour to cross-promote the upcoming sequel to Cruel Summer, and, after a July tour of Europe, he could totally join Kanye for a trip through North America. But it seems sort of ambitious that he would follow up one massive tour with another massive tour, so... maybe not.

Honestly, guys, if I had to place money on it, my bet would be 19 year old Desiigner, the most recent G.O.O.D. Music signee. Desiigner seems to be the baby of the family, and Papa Pablo is certainly proud; Kanye appeared in the music video for "Panda," and also sampled the track twice on The Life of Pablo . And, naturally, Desiigner appears on "Champions" along with the rest of Kanye's kin, so it would be no shock if Kanye takes him under his wing once again. And, as Desiigner's festival dates wrap up in July, his availability is wide open for an August and onward tour. Desiigner feels like a natural choice to serve as an opener, both logistically and in terms of his own blossoming career.

But the truth is, only time will tell. Until we know for sure, you can get the full list of tour dates here and stake out your computer for tickets to go on pre-sale June 16 and sale June 18.
