Is There Caffeine In A Starbucks Granita?

By now, you've likely heard that Starbucks has some brand new treats on its menu, and that they are shaved ice perfection, but you might have a few lingering questions over the yummy additions — like for instance, is there caffeine in a Starbucks Granita? The frosty new drinks are part of Starbucks' Sunset Menu, and are available at participating Starbucks stores exclusively after 3 p.m., making them the perfect way to unwind on a hot summer afternoon, but do they have the same bolt of caffeine as your go-to afternoon iced coffee? The answer depends on what you order.

There's just something about an ice cold granita that screams summer, and Starbucks has three different kinds to keep you cool and happy all season long. Choose from the Caramel Espresso Granita, Youthberry White Tea Granita, or the Strawberry Lemon Limeade Granita for a beverage that is the definition of delicious. But while each is refreshing in its own right — it's hard to beat lightly sweetened shaved ice doused with your favorite beverage — only one will give you a noticeable kick. The Caramel Espresso Granita contains 75 mg of caffeine, which probably won't keep you up at night, but it will certainly give you a little boost. By comparison, the Youthberry White Tea Granita contains between 15 and 25 mg of caffeine. The Strawberry Lemon Limeade Granita is caffeine-free.

A 12 oz. Caramel Espresso Granita costs between $3.95 and $4.25, depending on the market, while the other two Granitas cost between $3.45 and $3.75. But, you can try any of the three for $3 between now and June 26 if you bring in a receipt from your morning Starbucks run after 3 p.m. A cold drink that could pretty much double as dessert for less than $5? Count me in.
