This Winnie The Pooh Film Might Make Everyone Cry

by Emma Oulton

The Winnie-the-Pooh books have captured our hearts for generations, and now a new film about A.A. Milne and his son is going to tell the true story of how our favorite bear came to life. The Revenant actor Domhnall Gleeson will play A.A. Milne, the author who created the beloved teddy bear, and Suicide Squad actress Margot Robbie will portray his wife. How great is that cast?! Goodbye Christopher Robin will pay tribute to Milne's son, the real Christopher Robin, and how he coped with the sudden international fame of his once-private toys.

It's no secret that much of what can be found in the Winnie-the-Pooh books is based on truth. The bear himself was inspired by a teddy that belonged to Christopher Robin Milne — and the teddy was in turn named after a Canadian bear named Winnie that the young Milne met in London Zoo. The 100 Acre Wood is based on Ashdown Forest in the south of England, where A.A. Milne and his son would play Pooh Sticks. The books have immortalised Christopher Robin's charming childhood — but the sad truth is that both A.A. Milne and Christopher Robin hated the books' success.

I have a feeling that Goodbye Christopher Robin, which explores the effect of the books' fame on the once tight-knit Milne family, is going to have us all in tears. I mean, let's just start with that title. Are we saying goodbye to Christopher Robin's childhood? His innocence? Is it A.A. Milne saying goodbye to his good relationship with his son? Whatever it is, it doesn't sound good.

There's no word yet on who will play Christopher Robin himself, but I have no doubt that Domhnall Gleeson and Margot Robbie will shine in their roles.
