Michael & Jules Were On The 'RHONY' Rocks

Does being on Real Housewives Of New York doom a relationship? Can you think of one relationship that started before the show aired that lasted throughout all of filming? Ramona Singer and her husband, Mario, split; Bethenny Frankel and Jason Hoppy broke up; and Luann de Lesseps and her husband separated. Anyone who is still together (like Simon Van Kempen and Alex McCord or Jill and Bobby Zarin) left the show before they could divorce. Jules and Michael Wainstein are the latest casualties. Jules and Michael just announced their divorce, but you could sure see it coming on Real Housewives Of New York.

Jules talked a little bit in prior weeks about Michael’s not a very hands-on father. Like, he do a thing for his own kids, because he expects his wife to (which is a dealbreaker, but this isn’t about me. Michael, they’re your kids, too). He seems to have David Foster syndrome, aka an inability to do anything for anyone other than himself. Jules and Michael were out to dinner with Dorinda and John, and they were very late, mostly because Michael couldn’t make it his business to get out of work on time. Jules spoke to Dorinda separately about how Michael was demanding and useless even in the wake of her father being on his deathbed. Dorinda tried to give out medical advice, but she was drunk and Jules just wanted to wallow (which is fine. I would wallow. A little wallowing is good).

Watching the last few weeks and then hearing that Michael filed for divorce (according to Us Weekly, Jules caught Michael cheating on her), it was really no surprise. Sure, these two have been together for a long time, but Michael seems so, so selfish. He can’t even comfort his wife or help her out when her father is dying? My speculation is that these situations were the pieces to tip the scales, especially seeing all of it on television again. And, just like that, another reality television marriage bites the dust.
