Davos Is Ready To Break On 'Game of Thrones'

The Onion Knight has really had has time to shine this season on Game of Thrones. Davos Seaworth is definitely more than Stannis Baratheon's right hand man now, and I think the Season 6 finale might push that even further. Will Davos kill Melisandre on Game of Thrones ? He finally put together what happened to Shireen, and he's not happy about it.

Before the "Battle of the Bastards" in Sunday's episode, Davos somehow wandered over to the remains of the pyre where Shireen was sacrificed. In the rubble, he found the stag that he'd whittled for her. That confirmed that Stannis and Melisandre had killed his friend. The promo for next week shows Davos confronting Melisandre in front of Jon Snow about the incident. Basically, it's about to go down.

How did Davos not already know how Shireen died? Remember the silent moment between Davos and Melisandre at the end of Season 5, in which he learns that Shireen didn't make it via a wordless exchange with the Red Woman. Clearly, they never got together afterwards to confirm the details. That's not entirely surprising. Melisandre was feeling guilty and defeated for the first time in her life, and then the two of them were pretty consumed with Jon Snow business. I suppose that until now, Davos assumed that Shireen died during Stannis' battle against the Boltons.

Since the showdown between Ramsay Bolton and Jon Snow ended in such a satisfactory way, I predict that we are looking at more than one twist and/or allegiance shift in the Season 6 finale. There is a possibility that Jaime Lannister might betray Walder Frey and it looks like Davos, who has never liked the Red Woman, might finally crack and do something about it.

I'm not sure that it is Melisandre's time to die. After bringing back Jon from the dead, I am not even sure that I want her to die, and I was never a fan of her to begin with. If it happens though, Davos should be the one to do it — even if that means damaging his honorable moral center. Davos is a soldier, not a cold-blooded killer. Murder's not exactly his thing. Then again, neither was Sansa Stark. Game of Thrones changes people. It may be time for the greyer sides of Davos Seaworth to start showing.
