Ezra Miller's Flash is Worth Getting Excited About

by Michelle Lulic

Move over, Grant Gustin. I can't believe I just wrote that, actually. Filming for the next DC Comics film, Justice League, is underway, and Ezra Miller is officially stepping into the red and yellow suit. Apparently, this casting choice may be better than DC fans originally imagined. IGN reported a behind-the-scenes look at the 31st day of filming for Justice League on Monday, and Miller seems to be stealing the spotlight in the next chapter of the ever-growing DC Extended Universe. In fact, Ezra Miller's Flash is the one to watch in DC Entertainment's cinematic future — at least so far. No pressure or anything.

In the first-ever look into the highly-anticipated November 2017 release, The Flash (Miller) joins the likes of Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), and Commissioner James Gordon (J.K. Simmons), as they all ponder the supposed sudden disappearances of nine different scientists. The description of the scene not only helps to set up the potential plot and work of the villain for the Justice League film, but it also gradually introduces all of the characters. According to IGN, Miller's snark is what seems to have stood out in an otherwise tense situation.

But that wasn't even the only scene where Barry Allen's humorous personality stood out. In fact, another scene...

"...was the first meeting between Bruce Wayne and Barry Allen. Bruce has infiltrated Barry's apartment to confront him over the surveillance imagery of him in the convenience store (as seen in BvS). Barry lies about being in the photos, even though his Flash costume is right in the middle of his apartment. Bruce then turns and hurls a razor-sharp Batarang right at Barry who, as we see Bruce now move in slow-motion, reacts to the sight of the Batarang and easily catches it mid-air. 'You're Batman?!,' he asks. Bruce replies he's putting together a team and needs help from exceptional beings like Barry. 'Stop right there. I'm in,' Barry says to a visibly surprised and relieved Bruce, adding, 'I needs friends. 'And then he indicates the Batarang he caught. 'Can I keep this?'"

I'm already in love with Ezra Miller as the Flash, and I haven't even seen these clips for myself yet. However, there's also a similarity about this Justice League addition to yet another fast-moving young superhero who's been hitting the big-screen: Spider-Man. I mean, am I the only one who sees the direct similarities between The Flash's scene with Batman and Spider-Man's scene with Iron Man? Both of these characters exist in different comic universes, but, when it comes down to it, they're just young kids excited to start kicking ass. The Flash is the hilariously relatable character DC Comics fans have been waiting for. And, as long as DC still strives to stay as true to the comics as possible, I'm perfectly fine with this much-needed addition to the team. The Justice League seems to be shaping up pretty nicely.

So set those CW-based judgements on DC's The Flash casting aside. Based on what's been released about the film so far, Ezra Miller is doing a pretty good job of filling Grant Gustin's shoes.
