Kim K's Latest Tweet Slams Senate Gun Control Vote

Although it seemed like there might finally be a compromise on gun control during the forced floor vote on Monday, the Senate once again voted to block legislation that would have tighten loopholes for people with documented mental health problems and anyone who was on a government terrorist watch list in the last five years. Since this most recent failure within the legislature to enact change, even in the aftermath of the most deadly shooting in American history, there has been an uprising on social media denouncing the senatorial inaction, and leading the charge is one celebrity you might not expect. Kim Kardashian bashed the Senate gun control vote on Twitter, lending her voice to the growing tide of Americans who are fighting back against the federal government's inaction.

"So sad! The senate voted against background checks being needed to buy guns. So terrorists on fbi's wanted lists can legally still buy guns," Kardashian tweeted to her 46 million followers on Tuesday morning. A few minutes later in a follow-up, Kardashian posted: "The fact that anyone can so easily access guns is so scary & after all of the devastating loss the Senate should have not failed us!!!"

Love her or hate her, you can't deny that Kim's tweets actually highlight a pretty important issue that can't be overlooked in this election cycle. The upcoming election in November will put about one-third of the Senate up for reelection, and if your senator is one of the obstinate objectors to gun control reform, you have the power to make real change happen this year. 55 percent of all Americans now support stricter gun control, and that majority should be reflected in the Senate.

Many Americans, including President Obama, would probably agree with Kardashian's opinion that the Senate failed the country with this most recent vote, and now voters have the responsibility to correct that injustice and elect representatives who will actually protect the country.

And for anyone who thinks Kim doesn't know what she's talking about, Kardashian isn't new to the political arena — she's expressed some pretty nuanced and informed political opinions in the past. Last year, Kardashian, sister Khloe, daughter North, and husband Kanye West all traveled to Armenia to recognize the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide, after which Kim penned a pointed and insightful essay about the consequences of failing to recognize the genocide in the United States.

She's even mentioned running for Mayor of Glendale, California; it has a large Armenian population that she would like to represent. Kim wouldn't be the first celebrity to transition into politics, and with popular stances on gun control, feminism, and presidential candidates, Kim may just have her own future in politics some day.

Just because Kim is a celebrity doesn't mean she doesn't have serious and important political views, and her massive following makes her an invaluable advocate for any cause she wants to support. Her support on the ever divisive gun control issue could actually be a huge benefit to the reformers, and it should serve as a reminder to all to get out and vote for change in November.
