'RHOC' Star Lauri Peterson's Son Arrested

On Monday, The Los Angeles Times reported former Real Housewives of Orange County star Lauri Peterson's son Joshua Waring was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Per authorities who spoke with the outlet, the 27-year-old Waring allegedly shot a 35-year-old man in the lower torso early Monday morning at the man's home in Costa Mesa in Orange County, California. "Apparently there had been a previous confrontation between [Waring] and the occupants of that residence earlier, and he had returned," Costa Mesa police Lt. Paul Beckman said. Neither Waring nor Peterson could be reached for comment.

After the shooting, there was reportedly an eight-hour police chase, as Waring fled in a BMW SUV. Waring reportedly crashed the SUV and attempted to escape on foot, but was eventually caught. The chase resulted in Waring's arrest. A press release from Lt. Beckham to Bustle reads in part:

During the pursuit, Waring was involved in a traffic accident and later fled his vehicle on foot near 4th Street and Terminal Street. Waring attempted to hide inside a business in the area. After a brief standoff, he surrendered without further incident to the Santa Ana Police.

Costa Mesa police also reported that investigators found evidence in the SUV which linked Waring to the shooting, but a gun was not found. Waring was booked into Orange County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and reported vehicle theft, felony evasion of police, hit-and-run, and assault and battery. Bail has been set at $1 million.

NBC Los Angeles identified the gunshot victim as Daniel Lopez, who sustained serious injuries but is expected to survive.

As RHOC fans probably recall, Waring appeared in early seasons alongside his mother and has been known for his struggles with addiction. According to Superior Court records, Waring has been arrested multiple times, including when he plead not guilty to a felony drug and forgery charges in May, which included possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell. In 2008, he plead guilty on three felony counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and six misdemeanors related to drug use or possession.

In October 2015, Waring opened up to Bravo's The Daily Dish about her son, and taking in his daughter, Kennedy:

As most of the viewers know, I have a son and he's had just a lot of challenges. And he and his wife had a baby almost three years ago. He's really struggling and, well, they're both really struggling. And so [my husband] George and I elected to help out and we actually adopted Kennedy, and so we're raising her. It's been such a great experience because this is helping them out and hopefully they can get their lives together and be OK.

At this time, neither Waring or Peterson have commented on the events.
