Time To Plan Your 'Ferris Bueller' Listening Party

by Amy Mackelden

Are you ready for your daily piece of nostalgic '80s news? Thirty years after the classic film was released, the Ferris Bueller's Day Off official soundtrack is finally coming out. This is surely the best excuse of all time to invite your friends over for a Ferris Bueller listening party, replete with shoulder-padded jackets, oversized denim, and cocktails named after the movies characters. The soundtrack is authorized by Paramount Pictures, but there's not an official track listing available just yet. Whichever songs end up on the release, it's time to plan your listening party right now, because the movie's soundtrack is sure to create the perfect '80s vibe.

The absence of an official Ferris Bueller's Day Off soundtrack has confused fans since the film came out in 1986. According to an interview with Lollipop, the movie's writer and director John Hughes said, "A&M was very angry with me over that; they begged me to put one out, but I thought 'who'd want all of these songs?'" Clearly, Hughes understated the major love Ferris Bueller would garner, going on to become one of the best loved '80s movies of all time. The film's 30th anniversary is the perfect moment to finally release the Ferris Bueller's Day Off soundtrack and score, as it'll remind audiences everywhere of just how great the film still is.

From popular songs like "Twist And Shout" by The Beatles, to instrumental version of songs by The Smiths, the soundtrack for Ferris Bueller's Day Off is sure to be eclectic and surprising when it officially comes out. "Danke Schoen" by Wayne Newton recurs several times throughout the movie and is likely to be included on the soundtrack, as is the aptly titled "Taking The Day Off" by General Public.

It's a huge surprise that it's taken so long for a Ferris Bueller's Day Off soundtrack to come out, particularly as contemporary releases in a similar vein did so well. Movies like Dirty Dancing and The Breakfast Club had soundtracks which sold successfully, and are easy to sing along to all these years later. The release of an official Ferris Bueller soundtrack creates the perfect opportunity to throw the '80s party of your dreams. Time to order those fluorescent leg warmers right now.
