This 'Incredibles' Fan Theory Is Mind-Blowing

by Courtney Lindley

One of life's greatest questions: why, oh why Pixar Gods, is The Incredibles sequel taking 15 years to make? That's a decade and a half. That's the age of a sophomore in high school. By the time The Incredibles 2 hits theaters in June of 2019, it will have been 15 years since the original premiered. (And you thought the three years between Toy Story and Toy Story 2 was long.) Not that I have the right to complain. After all, I'd rather Pixar do The Incredibles sequel justice, rather than just make a sequel for the sake of it. Which, according to the Pixar conspiracy theorists of the interwebs (an important subsector), will be the case. Because Pixar wouldn't just randomly decide to put a 15 year gap between The Incredibles 1 and 2, nope. The sequel is coming out 15 years later for a reason, and according to an Incredibles fan theory found on Tumblr, this means something.

Everything. It means everything. And the clues have been in front of our face the whole entire time. If only we had paid attention. If only it hadn't taken us 12 years and one Tumblr post to see it and have our minds blown. Here's what I'm talking about: There's a scene in The Incredibles where the villain — Syndrome also known as Buddy — tells Mr. Incredible that he cannot call off the missile that will destroy the Incredible family. Why? Because Mr. Incredible is too late. "15 years too late." The fate has already been sealed. Cue the chills.

If you remember correctly, villainous Syndrome is referencing Mr. Incredible's poor treatment of him — a decade and a half ago. A point of contention between the two that ultimately lead to this pivotal scene. Is this 15 year gap between Syndrome and Mr. Incredible meeting and then having their final showdown/the 15 year gap between the two movies a coincidence? I don't believe in coincidences. Neither do the good people of Tumblr.

When it comes to how his 15 year time gap could fit into The Incredibles 2 plot, the possibilities are endless. For one, the story could take place exactly 15 years after the first one. Which would make the patriarchy of the house — Mr. Incredible — somewhere in his 50's, and his wife somewhere around that age too. Violet would be in her late 20s, and Dash in his early 20s. Jack-Jack, a teen. The movie could easily follow the lives of the three kids, as their parents probably hung up their superhero capes shortly after their family almost got annihilated by Syndrome's missile. Something would have to happen for the kids to get called on. I'm thinking Syndrome comes back? Or, better yet, Syndrome has an evil love child that surfaces. After all, Mr. Incredible "ruined his childhood," and he tried to blow up Mr. Incredible's kids, so, after his death at the end of the first film, perhaps, 15 years later, his secret love child with Mirage returns to carry on his father's evil legacy. Consider the Incredibles' fate sealed.

I mean, at the end of the day, it's got to have something to do with Syndrome. This fan theory is too good to not be true, and for the two movies to tie together in such a perfect way would be pretty... incredible. Right?
