Girl Scout Cookie Baking Mixes Are Finally A Thing

by Lily Feinn

If you’ve been craving a chewy Samoa or decadent Thin Mint, you may want to sit down real quick. Thanks to a new partnership between Girl Scouts of the USA and Pillsbury, girl scout cookie baking mixes are finally a thing!

That’s right: your favorite once-a-year treat will now be a year-round possibility. Pillsbury has transformed these crowd-favorite cookies into mixes for brownies, blondies, and cupcakes. No more hoarding boxes of Thin Mints in your freezer, no more crossing days off on your calendar until the local troop sets up their cookie stands once more. You’re an adult human after all, and now you can take matters into your own hands (oven mitts recommended).

Girl Scout cookie-flavored ice creams have been around for some time, trying to cool down our burning desire for the real thing. But while they are definitely tasty (no hate, ice cream), it is sadly just not the same. Perhaps toasty coconut cupcakes topped with chocolate and caramel ganache or gooey mint brownies with chocolate chunks hot out of the oven will help better quell the craving?

According to a press release, these boxes containing pure sugary joy are coming to a grocery store near you at a suggested retail price of $3.29. The current price of Girl Scout cookies is $5 a box — so comparatively these cupcakes are kind of a bargain. Pillsbury hopes that this will encourage more baking among family and friends (in other words, turn off the TV and get out the mixing bowl!).

Meredith Burns, VP of corporate communications, The J.M. Smucker Company, said in the press release, “We are very pleased about our licensing relationship with Girl Scouts of the USA, as our brands share a similar personality of happiness and fun — a common characteristic of bringing people together.”

I suppose 30 minutes in the oven, compared to a year of waiting is pretty good. I, for one, am sick and tired of having a bunch of nine-year-olds telling me when I can have my favorite dessert. Every year I slowly waste away from lack of shortbread while they preside over their cookie empire learning important life skills like relationship building, money management, and goal setting. Actually, that sounds pretty important.

Sadly, with the baking mixes there are no adorable sashes or “cookie business” badges in the grocery store, just the exchange of cold hard cash for cookie-flavored mix. But I’m OK with that.

No word on whether Tagalongs are in development, but one could only hope that soon their peanut butter and chocolatey goodness come to us in cupcake form as well.

Take my money, please. And let me just wipe my drool off the floor real quick.
