15 NYC Pride Pictures That Will Make You Proud

by Cate Carrejo

New York City celebrated its annual Pride Parade on Sunday, one of the most colorful and vibrant celebrations of the LGBTQ community in the whole country. This year's festival is more bittersweet than usual, tainted by the recent mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, but that didn't stop parade goers from pulling out all the stops and turning out in full force to show their pride. These incredible pictures from NYC Pride show that the city found the perfect balance between celebration and remembrance of the Orlando victims.

Everyone from Hillary Clinton to the cast of Orange Is The New Black showed up to march in the parade, which runs along Fifth Avenue down half the length of Manhattan and ends at the Stonewall Inn, the bar where the riots in 1969 informally launched the gay right movement in the U.S. President Obama dedicated Stonewall as the first ever national monument to LGBTQ rights just earlier this week, making the already legendary building even more important on this day of celebration and adding a much appreciated victory and recognition to the proceedings.

The city responded with an awareness of the significance, making this year’s parade the largest ever with over 32,000 marchers. In the wake of the Orlando shooting, this year’s parade was even more important than usual, and New Yorkers didn’t disappoint. Check out these pride parade pictures that are guaranteed to make you feel proud too.

NYC Pride Parade proves that Orlando hasn't been forgotten, and that the fight for true equality within the LGBTQ community is an still ongoing but powerful force.
