How To Order The Secret Starbucks Blue Drink

by Megan Grant

You didn't think the Starbucks secret menu rainbow-colored drink craze was over, did you? It's never over. The latest unofficial beverage to grace us with its presence is the Blue Drink, and it makes the perfect companion for the Pink, Purple, and Orange Drinks that recently made their debuts. And if you're wondering how to order the Starbucks Blue Drink, I have good news for you: The recipe is strikingly similar to that of the Purple Drink. Or at least, to one of the options for the Purple Drink, because having things to choose from is always nice.

In fact, the recipes are almost identical. Of the multiple possible recipes for the Starbucks Purple Drink, one includes Passion Iced Tea, soy milk, vanilla syrup, and blackberries as its ingredients; meanwhile, it looks like people are crafting their Blue Drinks with... drumroll, please... Passion Iced Tea, soy milk, and vanilla syrup, but no blackberries. And of course, the drinks are both customizable; as always, you're able to swap out the soy milk for coconut milk or make any other substitution you like. So what's the difference between Blue and Purple Drink, besides the presence or absence of blackberries> Really, I suspect that the main influence on the colors of the Purple Drink and Blue Drink is how much milk you have in there compared to tea; it's just a theory, but I imagine the more milk you have, the bluer the drink will be.

Regardless, though, it is bound to be 100 percent delish. I wouldn't recommend just rolling up to your favorite barista and asking for Blue Drink, though; since it's not an official Starbucks beverage, that's likely to earn you a long and uncomfortable blank stare. Here's exactly what to order to get your hands on the Blue Drink:

1. Head To The Closest Starbucks

You probably know where the five closest Starbucks are, but in case you don't, you can locate the store nearest you.

2. Choose Your Drink Size

No, "trough" is not a size. I've asked.

3. Order Passion Iced Tea

Technically, the proper name is Teavana Shaken Iced Passion Tango Tea, but we don't have time for that. We're thirsty.

4. Ask Them To Make It With Soy Milk

Or coconut milk. Don't forget to say "please" and "thank you."

5. Ask For A Pump Of Vanilla Syrup

Or however much your tastebuds desire. I like just a hint, so I usually request a "splash" and leave the rest up to them.

It's still a slight mystery how the Blue Drink gets blue in the first place, since Starbucks Passion Iced Tea looks pink on its own. In fact, the gorgeous pics of this refreshing summer beverage that you're seeing online could simply be clever filtering. But either way, it's tasty, it's perfect for the season.

Remember: Don't be afraid to add your own twist! I'm more of a coconut milk type of gal, so I'd probably make that swap, but to each her own. Drink up, friends!
