Bethenny's Surgery Is Serious On 'RHONY'

Let this be a lesson to us all — when your body is not feeling right, go to the doctor. That’s what Bethenny Frankel has learned on Real Housewives Of New York. After bleeding heavily for a while, Bethenny finally went to see her gynecologist, who had some troubling news — she has fibroids so bad that her uterus has doubled in size, and the only way to get them out is surgery. Needless to say, Bethenny’s surgery on Real Housewives Of New York has her a little emotional.

Called a myomectomy, Bethenny’s surgery basically entails a doctor going into her uterus and physically removing all of the fibroids. If she is bleeding too badly, her doctor says, he may have to perform a hysterectomy. Yikes. She was also told that she needed a living will and to figure out her medical proxy. This is scary stuff for anyone to think about, as they’re about to undergo a serious surgery, but especially for a single parent. Bethenny is co-parenting with her ex-husband, Jason Hoppy, and if anything should happen to Bethenny during surgery? Well, it’s more than she can bear, and she had a little bit of a breakdown in the car. Don’t worry, Bethenny — I would, too. Surgery is not something to be taken lightly, and it certainly makes you think of all of the “what ifs”.

I think what also complicated this was that people are telling her to get a second opinion, which is both helpful and not — she already knows she needs surgery, but to wait longer (when she’s lost ten percent of her blood) would be a grueling ordeal. Another problem for Bethenny? She has no family, so her support system is her friends. As she said, she doesn’t have a mother to call up and cry to. I’m sure that everything will be fine with Bethenny, but it’s tough to see her in pain.
