And The Song Of The Summer Frontrunner Is...

by Caitlyn Callegari

While the coveted "Song of the Summer" title can be both definitive and subjective, depending on if you're basing it from the heart or on actual numbers, and this year, the song of the summer might be both. According to Billboard, Drake's "One Dance" is the Song Of The Summer frontrunner, having dominated the publication's Songs of The Summer charts at number one for five straight weeks. The chart runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and at the end of the summer, the song with the best chart performance is officially the 2016 Song of the Summer.

I think we can all agree that seeing the song at number one for this extended period of time means that "One Dance" has major Song of the Summer potential. And the infectious Drake song has earned this potential honor not only because of this major accomplishment, but because we all can't stop playing it, either. That's where the "heart" part comes in. It's not just a mainstream song that feels unworthy of its popularity. It's genuinely really good. This success feels more than earned.

Even without taking the impressive chart topping into consideration, if you've been listening to Views on loop since its debut in April (like me), you were merely waiting for a warm day and a cold drink in hand to bust out this song for to really set the mood. It just feels right for it to be the song to remember this summer by for sure. But, while "One Dance" is a total bop, I'd argue that Views is rife with songs that may not have gotten the same recognition as "One Dance," but most certainly could qualify as unforgettable summer tunes.

1. "Hype"

If you ever needed a song to pregame to for your pool party, here it is.

2. "With You" Ft. PartyNextDoor

This tune is a more subdued, slower summer song, but still has that warm weather, carefree feel to it. And, it's just so easy to listen to.

3. "Too Good" Ft. Rihanna

An apropos title for this jammable tune with Bad Girl RiRi. In fact, if it's on and you aren't gyrating your hips to the beat in that warm, summer air, what are you even doing?

4. "Child's Play"

Any song about the Cheesecake Factory is an instant classic in my book. But, aside from it referencing my most favorite chain food establishment, it's upbeat and has a great beat.

5. "Controlla"

I mean, obviously. Just... duh.

If the charts keep seeing Drake dancing at number one, "One Dance" will reign supreme by Labor Day. And if he doesn't get the official title, let's just consider that he's already won with Views in general, OK?
