This New Snapchat Feature Changes The Game

by Megan Grant

Always ahead of the game, one of our favorite social media platforms is releasing yet another sweet update: The new Snapchat Memories feature lets you save Snaps and Stories into a personal collection of favorites. Snapchat announced the update in a blog post on Wednesday, and you know what? It sounds awesome. Really, really awesome. It will be rolled out selectively over the next month, and I can't wait to try it out for myself.

There are a couple different ways to use the feature: You can create new Stories from previously taken Snaps saved to Memories, or you can actually even combine multiple Stories into one giant Story. It's almost like a Snapchat scrapbook — how cool (and easy)! To access Memories, all you have to do is swipe up from the camera. You can send Snaps that are in Memories to friends, and even post them to your own Story. Old Snaps are displayed in a frame, so people know you didn't just take them.

And there's another neat facet of this feature that Snapchat has built in, too: An extra privacy measure. If there's a particular Snap or Story in your Memories that you don't want other people to see, you can set it to "My Eyes Only." That way, you're the only one who will see them. That's good to know; nothing is worse than people accidentally seeing that picture you toooootally meant to keep private. And as usual, Snapchat will only back up photos or videos that you put into the app — including Memories and My Eyes Only; it will not save anything that's just hanging out in your phone's regular camera roll.

Check out the video below to see it in action:

The feature sounds like a really touching way for users to have the opportunity to make Snapchat more personal. Snapchat Memories will be great for birthdays, anniversaries, vacations — pretty much any little story that you want to hang on to. There's nothing like a stroll down memory lane from time to time, am I right?

Snapchat will be selectively releasing Memories selectively to users over the next month or so; you'll receive a Chat from the Snapchat team when the feature is ready for you to take for a ride
