The New 'Ghostbusters' Soundtrack Will Haunt You

The new Ghostbusters is tantalizingly close. The film looks to update one of the most beloved franchises of all time with a modern retelling of the basic story from the 1984 original film. The new movie features a talented principle cast of four comedians; Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones (not to mention cameos from many of the original cast members), in a bid to recreate the outstanding humor of the first film. But the comedy wasn't the only thing that made Ghostbusters great, there was also the music. The new movie looks to update that as well, so where can you get the new Ghostbusters soundtrack?

You can pick up the new soundtrack basically wherever music is sold. The new soundtrack will be available on CD, vinyl, and digital format on July 15 — the same day the movie opens. But what kind of songs will it feature? Much like the original Ghostbusters soundtrack, it looks to be very much a product of its time. Gone are the synthesizers and drum machines of the '80s-tastic original, replaced by hard driving modern pop from the likes of Zayn Malik, 5 Seconds of Summer, and Elle King — with the occasional rap song or verse thrown in. But fans of the classics shouldn't panic just yet — Ray Parker Jr's timeless theme song is still included, along with several cover versions of it. Here's the full track list below:

  1. Ghostbusters - WALK THE MOON
  2. Saw It Coming - G-Eazy feat. Jeremih
  3. Good Girls - Elle King
  4. Girls Talk Boys - 5 Seconds of Summer
  5. wHo - ZAYN
  6. Ghostbusters - Pentatonix
  7. Ghoster - Wolf Alice
  8. Ghostbusters (I'm Not Afraid) - Fall Out Boy feat. Missy Elliott
  9. Get Ghost - Mark Ronson, Passion Pit & A$AP Ferg
  10. Party Up (Up In Here) - DMX
  11. Rhythm of the Night - DeBarge
  12. American Woman - Muddy Magnolias
  13. Want Some More - Beasts Of Mayhem
  14. Ghostbusters - Ray Parker, Jr

If this sounds like your bag, then check out these tracks that you can listen to right now.

"Ghostbusters" - WALK THE MOON

A surprisingly faithful take on the 32-year-old original, WALK THE MOON are even sure to include Parker's trademark screams at the right moments... while also having a little fun with the notorious "bustin' makes me feel good" line.

"Good Girl" - Elle King

Uh, cue montage of the new Ghostbusters being badasses, please.

"Saw It Coming" - G-Eazy feat. Jeremih

This hip hop track smartly works "who you gonna call?" into its refrain. Plus, if you ever forget who sings this song, they announce their names at the beginning. That's pretty handy!

"Party Up (Up In Here)" - DMX

Remember when I said this soundtrack was very of its time? That time is the early 2000s.

"Rhythm Of The Night" - DeBarge

But the movie hasn't forgotten its '80s roots, either. Anyone else think this has to play during a dance sequence featuring Slimer?

"American Woman" - Muddy Magnolias

This song seems tailor-made to strike back at the sexist criticism directed at the film's cast.

"Ghostbusters (I'm Not Afraid)" - Fall Out Boy feat. Missy Elliott

Speaking of the early 2000s, Fall Out Boy and Missy Elliott seem like somewhat odd choices to headline the lead single of a 2016 film, but the retro combo has led to this update to Parker's song that has ignited its own share of controversy. Whether you love it or hate it, you'll definitely have feelings about it.

"Ghostbusters" - Ray Parker Jr.

Still the best.

The new Ghostbusters soundtrack is an interesting mix to say the least, and I can't wait to see how it fits in with what's happening on screen (even if I still wish they had room for "Savin' the Day").
