9 Celebrities Rocking Yellow Eyeshadow Perfectly

by Hatti Rex

Although I've never been that tempted to try a statement shadow — usually opting instead for either a bold lip or striking cat-eye shape — coming across images of celebrities wearing yellow eyeshadow has made me pretty keen to dabble with the look myself. The arrival of summer often brings around a brighter and bolder color palette, with yellow being a big contender across fashion and beauty. The bright primary color can remind us of all things sunshine-related, so it's no wonder that people turn to this cheery hue when the sky clears that little bit more.

As well as being a popular seasonal expression, yellow eyeshadow is often linked with the grunge and punk aesthetics that inspire a lot of current styling trends. Perhaps it's because of this edgy connotation that some beauty enthusiasts may be apprehensive of the shade; but in my opinion, you can make any fashion craze work in your favor if you modify it to suit your own personal style.

Whether spotted on the red carpet, in an iconic music video, or even at Comic Con, here are nine of my favorite celebrity looks that incorporate yellow eyeshadow in different ways. If afterwards you're feeling particularly inspired, then go ahead and try it out.

1. Nicki Minaj

Potentially one of the most catchy club tunes of the past few years, the video for Nicki Minaj's pop track "Super Bass" opens up with the lady herself fluttering some falsies while showing off some particularly popping yellow shadow. Every beauty look she rocks fits into the cotton candy vibes of the video perfectly.

2. Rachel McAdams

It's hard to tell whether this look was achieved with powder or liner, but I love the contrast between Rachel McAdams' yellow lid and black lashes. The actor showcased this dazzling eye makeup at the London premiere of her film Morning Glory all the way back in 2010, but it's still stuck in my memory.

3. Soo Joo Park

Soo Joo Park has a ferociously fierce and feminine appearance with her ice white hair and bleached eyebrows, so the yellow shadow really stands out against her pale aesthetic.

4. Gigi Hadid

Matching your makeup to your outfit is always a surefire way to turn heads. This theory was especially proven by model Gigi Hadid at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, where she radiantly coordinated her yellow gold eyeshadow to her marigold V-neck dress.

5. Rihanna

Talk about a throwback. If you can flashback to when our girl RiRi featured in David Guetta's club banger "Who's That Chick?" then you may have already admired her canary yellow eyeshadow. The contrast against her flaming red hair was quite literally fire.

6. Elle Fanning

After seeing this Elle Fanning yellow eyeshadow look online, I immediately questioned whether she has a thing for matching her makeup to the logos of the events she attends. Surely this was not a coincidence. But even if it was, she looked fab in golden at Comic Con back in 2014. Props to the identically-colored nails, too.

7. Rita Ora

British singer Rita Ora always has impeccable style, so it's no wonder that she's taken on the yellow eyeshadow trend at some point. Once again, I'm really feeling the coordination between the beauty and wardrobe departments. This look had a very clean and fresh feel and the statement earrings added an interesting touch.

8. Hayley Williams

With yellow eyeshadow having a presence in punk looks, it's no surprise that rock chick Hayley Williams has used the medium to set against her fiery orange locks. The Paramore vocalist has always played around with bright, warm hues, and this particular trend suits her tremendously.

9. Beyoncé

I obviously saved the best 'til last. Starring alongside Lady Gaga in the video for "Telephone" wasn't the only time Queen Bey rocked yellow eyeshadow, but it's certainly the most memorable. Beyoncé had the lids to match not only her insane bright yellow outfit in the diner scene, but also to the getaway truck, the subtitles, and Gaga's hair.

So y'all, I think it's time to give yellow shadow the 10/10 it's always deserved.
