Summer means travel season, and I know I've spent a fair amount of time the last few weeks on planes, trains, and cars traveling to visit friends. Although the time spent on the go is, of course, worth it in the end, I'm not going to lie — travel can be a pretty stressful undertaking, and I'm always looking for ways to simplify my routine. That's why these reasons you shouldn't wear makeup while traveling completely convinced me to travel with a fresh face in the future.

I don't know about you, but wearing makeup always gives me a little confidence boost, and it's normal to want to look your best during travel. But when you're in the dry environment of an airplane, the last thing you want is to have to deal with your mascara running or your foundation flaking. So why not just leave that all behind? Not only will your face feel fresh and comfortable, but you'll be more able to apply the kinds of products that can soothe your skin during a dry flight or super long car ride.

Here's just some of the reasons that will convince you that going makeup free on your next trip is a great idea.

1. You'll Be Able To Hydrate Your Face

Spritzing your face with a mist during your flight or on a long trip is a great way to feel refreshed. Not refreshing? Your makeup melting off your face afterward. With no makeup on, you can hydrate more easily.

2. You Can Even Do A Sheet Mask

Although it may get you some weird looks from your seat mate, doing a sheet mask during a flight is a great way to kill two birds with one stone — your skin will be more hydrated, and it's a good way to pass time while you travel. And you can only do one if you're not wearing makeup, duh.

3. You Can Use Eyedrops Without Mascara Streaks

My eyes majorly dry out during flights and in over air conditioned environments, so I keep a bottle of eyedrops on hand to help hydrate. But you know what's not fun? Having your mascara streak after using them. With no makeup on, you're in the clear.

4. You Can Catch Some Zzzz's

The monotonous motion of a plane, train or car puts me to sleep every time without fail. My favorite way to sleep while traveling is with an eye mask, because it totally blocks out any light and makes my sleep way more relaxing. But if I'm wearing eye makeup, my lashes are clumpy and bent after I take it off, and my eyeliner is smudged. If you're not wearing makeup, it's no worry.
