Harley Quinn Owns The New 'Suicide Squad' Trailer

by Caitlyn Callegari

There are superhero blockbuster films, and then there's this. And by "this" I mean a superhero film that defies every expectation, but that's kind of the whole point of Suicide Squad, isn't it? The movie's about gathering villains in order to "do good," which feels like an oxymoron in theory, but in practice, it seems to work quite well. Or at least, if the new international Suicide Squad trailer is any indication, it certainly does. While the trailer does its very best at wowing with jaw-dropping special effects and action shots that can only be described as art, it's one antihero in particular that really catches the eye and steals the show: Harley Quinn.

While this mew trailer is chock-full of badass superhero elements, what with the explosions, the slow-mo stunts, the Joker being terrifyingly entertaining (what else would you epect?), and the sheer anticipation of it all, it's actually Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie, who steals the show without hardly having to do anything at all. Though that's not to say she doesn't exact some crazy moves herself, because she totally does.

What makes Harley the most riveting part of the trailer is her job to not only provide the comedic relief, but to act as a sort of greek chorus, too, with the way in which she basically crashes through the fourth wall. When the Joker's heard in the distance, she voices what you're probably saying in your head, a big ol', "Uh oh." And in one scene, when she's being commanded not to "irritate or vex," she nonchalantly raises her hand to "forewarn" that she is, quite obviously, "known to be quite vexing." I mean, her reputation does precede her. Then there's that last stretch of the trailer where she also serves as the Suicide Squad official bartender, which is hugely entertaining to bear witness to. Mostly, because in that instance, she acts totally... normal. It's a strange sight.
