This Size Inclusive Activewear Brand Is Inspiring

by Gina Jones 2

It's likely fair to say that finding athletic-wear you're comfortable in is hard at any size; but this rings especially true if you're plus size and even more so if you're over a size 3X. Size inclusive sportswear brands and clothing aren't necessarily impossible to come across. But coming across plus size activewear that can give us a sense of individual style? That's a whole other ballgame. If you're a nerdy workout fiend, however, get ready to rejoice in the latest clothing collaboration from roller derby uniform retailer Frogmouth Clothing: Bitch Planet athletic-wear.

Body positive rhetoric has arguably led to all sorts of fresh styles for plus size people, albeit particularly plus size people sizes 14 to 22, so we are no longer as limited to shapeless black garments or the occasional expensive rockabilly dress as we once were. The fashion-forward nature of fatshion hasn't quite reached sportswear in the same way, however.

For those of you who don't know, Bitch Planet is an ongoing comic book series about a female prison set in the future. As The Guardian described it, it's "one part Black Mirror, one part Orange Is The New Black." Tackling feminism and politics, the series focuses on women of color and trans women, undoubtedly making it a must-read comic for all feminists. Thanks to Frogmouth Clothing, we can now represent its ethos via our sportswear, too.

According to The Guardian, the collection currently consists of four tank tops, but all the shirts can be customized by length — a plus for anybody who has ever struggled with the long torso life, like I have — and are available in sizes 3XS petite to 6X long.

By offering 36 sizes, this line is probably one of the most size inclusive ones available online, and not just when it comes to sportswear collections. If you ask me, that's well worth the $50 price point.

As well as promoting a feminist-run and feminism-focused publication and providing sportswear for such a variety of sizes that humans can be, Frogmouth Clothing is making these tanks to the very best quality.

The brand's website describes the fabric and what it does by noting, "All items [are] made of our exclusive Nanoweave fabric, which we originally designed for roller derby: It's lightweight, durable, and easy to wash, and features wicking to keep you dry, and anti-microbial treatment to keep you free from stank."
