'MacGyver' Is Up To His Old Tricks

by Emily Lackey

Give this guy a pocketknife and an airplane, and he is good to save the world. That’s MacGyver for you, and in this first look from the MacGyver reboot, it seems like this handy guys is up to the same old tricks he was in the original series. The video clip provides a behind-the-scenes glimpse at just what the new version of MacGyver will be getting himself into in today’s day and age. And just in case you were worried that a modern day MacGyver would be stuck behind a computer, hacking his way into solving problems with not nearly as much action as the original series provided, I’m here to tell you that all of your worries are just wrong. Because, in this clip MacGyver is just as handy and adventurous as he was back when the show first aired.

And thank goodness for that, because I don’t want to live in a world where MacGyver is just sitting around, twiddling his thumbs, and trying to save the day by writing some crazy computer code. Instead, in this behind-the-scenes look at the new CBS series, MacGyver is just as handy with a pocketknife as he ever was. Leave it to this guy to save the day (and an entire plane full of people) with a single tool.

The new CBS series stars Lucas Till as the Angus “Mac” MacGyver who relies on his unconventional problem solving skills to take on the toughest agents and to save thousands of lives. And from the looks of this clip, fans won’t have to worry about the reboot would paling in comparison to the original series.

Instead, it seems like today’s world is a place that is even more perfect for MacGyver’s problem-solving skills. With technology dominating our lives in ways that most of us don’t understand — or in ways that seem totally mysterious to those of us without a computer science degree — having a hero like MacGyver — a guy who creates practical solutions to some of the world’s toughest problems — is seems like the perfect remedy.
