17 Dream (But Unlikely) 2016 Emmy Nominations

Be honest. There isn't a single year that passes in which you agreed with every single nominations at a major awards show. It's impossible to do right by the wealth of talent in Hollywood. This year's Emmy nominees will be announced on Thursday, and I am anticipated a lot of sighing fans. In that spirit, here are some dream 2016 Emmy nominations that probably won't come true, but are definitely deserving.

Like, call me a weirdo, but while I still haven't watched Transparent or Better Call Saul, I could talk your ear off about Another Period, Supergirl, Preacher, Man in the High Castle, Fear The Walking Dead, certain moments/performances on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and plenty of shows that aren't likely to be nominated for Emmy Awards despite being top notch. The lack of awards Hannibal, it makes me too sad to think about.

I'm not overreaching, here. I wouldn't suggest, say, someone like awards darling Lin-Manuel Miranda. That would be an impossible dream because the man behind (and in front of) Hamilton actually didn't do any primetime television this year. Any of my picks could prove me wrong and get nominated. It's just that this is such an amazing time for television, with quality programming across more platforms than any one human has the ability to reach. That means that some people and some shows are bound to be left out. Let's all brace ourselves together for what could be the inevitable.

1. Aziz Ansari, Master of None

Either as a writer or a star, one of my biggest Emmy fears is that Ansari's Netflix comedy has been completely forgotten.

2. Shiri Appleby, UnREAL

Constance Zimmer's outrageous character is more likely to get nominated over Appleby's subtler anti-heroine performance.

3. Krysten Ritter, Marvel's Jessica Jones

This was the year of the anti-heroine, honestly, but the Emmys probably did not take notice.

4. David Tennant, Marvel's Jessica Jones

On that note, Tennant's terrifying performance also deserves a nod that that will probably get overlooked for more "heroic" roles.

5. Penny Dreadful

The showtime series is another genre favorite that tends to get overshadowed by American Horror Series.

6. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

While Rachel Bloom may get nominated after winning the Golden Globe, the show deserves the Best Comedy nomination and will probably

7. Gina Rodriguez, Jane the Virgin

Again, while the Golden Globes love this show, the Emmys don't seem to, and I think that will

8. Outlander

Similarly, while the Starz time-travel romance got attention at the Golden Globes, an Emmy nomination is unlikely.

9. Tatiana Maslany, Orphan Black

She was finally nominated last year, but Maslany deserves as many nominations as characters that she plays, and the show is only getting better.

10. Narcos

The "older" Netflix shows like House of Cards and Orange Is The New Black just seem to get all the love.

11. The Carmichael Show

This is one of the most overlooked sitcoms recently, and I have a feeling this year will be no different.

12. Kit Harington, Game of Thrones

Peter Dinklage, Diana Rigg, and Lena Headey tend to get most of the awards focus, but this season belonged to Jon Snow. I would also love to see nominations for Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner, and Season 6 guest actor Ian McShane.

13. Courtney B. Vance

He could win Best Guest Actor for his turn in the "The Lawn Chair" episode of Scandal alone, but Vance truly deserves recognition for his work in American Crime Story: The People Versus OJ Simpson.

14. Riley Keough, The Girlfriend Experience

Continuing the trend of female anti-heroes, Keough's fascinating performance is guaranteed not to make the cut. Amy Seimetz' direction is also worthy, but may be ignored in favor of flashier shows.

15. The Americans

Your parents love it. My parents love it. Why don't the Emmys love it? Margo Martindale is the only consistent nominee.

16. Broad City

Like, just brace yourselves. Yet again, Broad City is not going to get nominated. The Emmys have a weird relationship with comedy, and the abundance of high profile "dramedies" doesn't help.

17. Constance Wu, Fresh Off The Boat

Another critically acclaimed but often-overlooked sitcom with some major performances. Wu has been nominated for the Critics Choice Television Award twice, but radio silence from the Emmys.

Like I said before, I'm happy to be proven wrong. Please, feed me my words and nominate these shows and performers. That would make the Emmys better than my wildest dreams.
