Margaret Atwood's Graphic Novel Gets A Trailer

We're inching ever closer to the release of Margaret Atwood's first graphic novel, Angel Catbird , and now Dark Horse Comics has released a trailer featuring Atwood and artist Johnnie Christmas. The Man Booker Prize-winning author of The Blind Assassin and The Handmaid's Tale will take part in three events at this year's San Diego Comic-Con: the "Geek Girls & Catbirds" panel on July 22, and two Angel Catbird signings on July 21 and 22.

2016 has been a banner year for Atwood fans. In April, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Hulu was developing a miniseries based on The Handmaid's Tale , starring Elisabeth Moss. A few weeks later, we learned that Netflix and the CBC were adapting Atwood's historical novel, Alias Grace , into a miniseries as well. Atwood's takes on The Tempest in her forthcoming novel, Hag-Seed, which is currently slated for an October 11 release.

Readers first heard about Angel Catbird back in December 2015. More information came in June, when we finally got to take a peek at the new superhero's creation. Now, Atwood and Christmas have revealed even more insight into Angel Catbird's backstory.

After an accident involving his cat, an owl, and a beaker full of gene splicer, a scientist finds himself transformed into a man-cat-owl hybrid. He links up with an underground community of man-cats, who are fighting a war against mind-controlled rats.

It may surprise you to learn that Angel Catbird is driven by advocacy for cats and birds. The graphic novel's pages feature helpful notes about cat mortality rates and bird conservation, both of which are causes Atwood holds dear.
