This Montage Does Philip Seymour Hoffman Justice

There's a real sense of communal loss among Philip Seymour Hoffman's friends, fellow actors, and those of us who only knew him through his work. And this stunning video tribute to Philip Seymour Hoffman, made by film maker Caleb Slain, is already getting viewed and shared all over the world. It comes in at a whopping 21 minutes and 38 seconds, but don't let the lengthiness fool you: Once you start watching, you won't stop until the end, and trust me when I tell you, you will cry before it's done.

The montage is a considered and beautifully curated collection of everything we loved about Hoffman's work. The reason his death has been so monumental is that as an actor and a person, he touched on something deep within all of us: the self conscious searching for what makes us who we are. And it's that emotion that's so present in each and every one of these clips, and it's unquestionably what made Hoffman an actor for the ages. There are few actors or musicians I'd gladly sit and cry over for 21 minutes of my day, but Philip Seymour Hoffman is absolutely one of them, which is what makes Slain's work so heart-wrenchingly appropriate.

This video is worth every moment, so watch it and weep.
