This Snapchat Filter Is So Donald Trump

by Cheyna Roth

As you find yourself standing among the crowds in Cleveland — or sitting at home watching — you may realize that there is clapping going around. But what is the best way to determine the enthusiasm of the applause during the Republican National Convention? Surely, your ears alone are not the best judge of such a thing. Have no fear, because Snapchat has a Donald Trump RNC filter to keep you covered. The app has created a new filter, an applause meter, which will tell you how the noise ranks. Best of all, it uses the language of Trumpto rank the enthusiasm.

The new applause meter ranks applause as follows, from loudest to lowest: Yuuuuuge, The Best, Spectacular, Remarkable, and Low Energy. Each of these have become a staple of the Trump vernacular, or have had some moment in the sun thus far during the campaign. In case they don't quite ring a bell, here is a breakdown of each term.

Yuuuuuge: If you don't know about this one, you haven't been paying attention. Trump has been dragging out and modifying the word "huge" for years, and it's a tic that even he is willing to poke fun of and embrace.

The Best: Trump would never say he is simply good at something. He is always the best. If you look through some of his past statements, you will find that Trump would be the best "constitutional president ever." He has also gone on record as saying, "I know words. I have the best words" and "I build the best buildings." Trump also believes that, in spite of having no military or foreign policy experience, he will be "the best by far in fighting terror." Oh, and Trump Tower Grill makes the best taco bowls ... just ask him.

Spectacular: In his book The Art of the Deal , Trump had this to say about himself:

I play into people’s fantasies. People may not always think big themselves, but they can still get very excited by those who do. That’s why a little hyperbole never hurts. People want to believe that something is the biggest and the greatest and the most spectacular.

"Spectacular" is also a word he occasionally likes to throw around about people and places:

Remarkable: This one takes a bit more digging to figure out. Unlike the man himself, it's a bit more subtle. However, it's likely this is in reference to a Sen. Ted Cruz remark from April, when he called Trump's win in New York "Truly a remarkable achievement." But don't be fooled by the text; the sentiment was clearly oozing with sarcasm.

Low Energy: Trump loves giving out nicknames. He just thinks it's the best. For him, it's yuuge. And the spectacular nicknames have a remarkable way of sticking with his followers, be it to call presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton ("Crooked Hillary") or Sen. Marco Rubio ("Little Marco"). But he saved the "low energy" descriptor for fellow primary candidate Jeb Bush. Trump started calling Bush low energy during a rally in Vermont, and Bush tried to outrun the moniker with little success.

As you find yourself inevitably watching the ruckus of the RNC, take the time to determine the audience enthusiasm in the only way Trump himself would want: By using a piece of social media.
