Will 'Making A Murderer' Season 2 Be About Dassey?

by Michelle Lulic

After a successful Emmy-nominated first season, Netflix's crime documentary, Making A Murderer , has officially begun production on its second season. Following 10 episodes that covered the trial and conviction of both Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey for the murder of 25-year-old photographer Teresa Halbach in Season 1 (both Avery and Dassey maintain their innocence to this day), documentary filmmakers Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos are ready to continue telling the story with a whole new post-trial perspective. But, while most of Season 1 documented Avery's story, Making a Murderer Season 2 could be more about Brendan Dassey.

Even though 10 hours in Season 1 have been dedicated at least partially to Dassey's story, as well as Avery's, already, the case spanned years and there's tons more information on the table to explore. With Season 2 confirmed, this could be just the platform that Ricciardi and Moira needed to dive even deeper into certain aspects of Dassey's relationship with his uncle and the trial itself.

"The next chapter will provide an in-depth look at the high-stakes post-conviction process, as well as, the emotional toll the process takes on all involved," Netflix's latest press release on the status of the series revealed. The release also stated that "Dassey's legal team, led by Laura Nirider and Seven Drizin," will be a part of the "exclusive access" and that the season will give "intimate access to the families and characters close to the case."

So while it's unclear as to what exactly could be included about Dassey in Season 2, the story is going to continue to unfold for the young man and his involvement in the case. And, therefore, I'm thinking that viewers can definitely expect further details to come into fruition when it comes to his role in it all. However, as expected, Avery's story will still get its share of coverage throughout the second season. It's not clear how much screen time Avery's story will get compared to Dassey's, but I'm sure America will be carefully watching every minute no matter what.

Season 1 of Making A Murderer is now streaming on Netflix.
