The First Trailer For 'Annie' Is Here

by Christine DiStasio

LEAPING LIZARDS! The first trailer for the Annie remake starring Quvenzhane Wallis, Jamie Foxx, and Cameron Diaz is here and it's everything you wanted it to be. I'll be the first to admit that I was feeling skeptical when I first heard about the "modern-day remake" of one of my favorite classics — even when it was announced that the adorable Wallis was attached to star. But this trailer is so fun that I'm ready to buy my tickets for its Christmas release right now.

As you probably guessed, Wallis will star in the film's title role with Jamie Foxx as Daddy Warbucks-like character, Benjamin Stacks, and Cameron Diaz as Miss Hannigan. Other stars include Academy Award-winner Bobby Cannavale in a new role written for the remake and Rose Byrne as Grace Farrell. All of these stars appear in the trailer, which also features Wallis singing classic tunes from the 1982 film adaptation of the Broadway musical — "It's A Hard Knock Life" and "Tomorrow". Oh, and Sandy the dog is back, too.

Wallis is adorable as expected and Diaz is fast-talking and funny (though, not as funny as Carol Burnett — but really, who could be). And Jamie Foxx is, well, Jamie Foxx.

Whatever your preconceived notions are about remakes, this Annie trailer WILL melt your heart and make you feel warm, fuzzy, and nostalgic. And you'll definitely want to sing along. Watch it here:
