Gwen Stefani Almost Starred In 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith'?

by Emily Lackey

Put your work on hold, tell your bae you’ll call them back, and literally drop whatever you're holding, because Gwen Stefani just dropped some major casting news that we all need to stop and talk about for a sec. During an appearance on The Howard Stern Show Wednesday morning, the 46-year-old singer spilled all kinds of information about everything from her relationship with Gavin Rossdale to tidbits about her life no one may have known before. And while most people are talking about the details about Rossdale that she hung out to dry, I want to talk about this other important thing that she just happened to mention offhandedly: Guys, Gwen Stefani auditioned for Mr. And Mrs. Smith — specifically for Angelina Jolie's role — and what's more is that she almost got it. Or, at least she thinks she almost got it: According to Stefani, she went to “a bunch of [auditions]” for the role, which must have been a good sign.

I’m loving this information for so many reasons — like, who knew Stefani could act? — but mostly because I can't help but think that if the former No Doubt lady had landed the role, the world would be a much different place than it is today.

I mean, just imagine all of the things that would be different. Like, for starters" Mr. and Mrs. Smith was the movie that famously brought Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie together. The two have publicly denied that anything romantic happened on set (after all, Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston at the time), but it was definitely a catalyst to making their relationship, like, happen. So, what would have happened if Stefani had gotten the role instead? Would we even have Brangelina?!

A lot of other things might be different too. Let’s take a minute to imagine what the world would be like had she scored the role over Jolie.

1. No Brangelina

Maaaaaaaybe this couple was always destined to be together and some Hollywood after party would have brought them together anyway, but it’s pretty unlikely. With as much time as they spent onset getting to know each other, I bet their connection wouldn’t have been the same had they not starred in this popular movie together.

2. No Shiloh Jolie-Pitt

Which means no next generation of Jolie-Pitts breaking gender norms and showing the world that it’s OK to dress however you want.

3. No Vivienne And Knox For That Matter, Either

Say goodbye to all the Jolie-Pitt children. Had these two not met on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the world would be a little less populace.

4. Jen And Brad Might Still Be Married

This is pretty unlikely since I’m guessing there were already issues brewing in their marriage that led to their divorce, but it’s still a possibility.

5. If Jen Stayed With Brad, Justin Theroux Would Just Be That Dude From The Leftovers

Not a terrible title by any means, but I do love Jen and Justin together.

6. Angelina Jolie’s Tattoo Collection Would Be Much Smaller

With three fewer coordinates on her back (each represents the GPS coordinates of the locations her kids were botn), her collection wouldn’t quite have the same visual impact as it does now.

So as much as I would have loved to see Gwen Stefani in a major motion picture, I think the world is definitely a better place without her in the role. Think of all the things we be missing out on if Brangelina had never met!
